5 Fun Freaky Facts for Friday, Epsom Salts

5 fun freaky facts for friday epsom salts

Welcome to this weeks edition of 5 Fun Freaky Facts for Friday, Epsom Salts.

1.  Get rid of tree stumps out of your yard.  Drill holes into the tree stump at least 10 inches deep, fill the holes with mixture of half water, half Epsom salt and wait.  The stumps will start to decompose within a month.  Soon you will have a stump-less yard.

2.  Use Epsom Salts to Supplement Magnesium in your outdoor or indoor gardens. The plants use the magnesium as food to survive and thrive.  So, if you take a salt bath, save the water for your garden and yard.  Don’t waste it!  Lol.

3.  You can create unique and cute crafts with the salts.  Add glue to branches, vases, pine cones or leaves and sprinkle or roll them in Epsom Salt to create a unique and cute craft for your holiday decor.  I have seen many bloggers that are showing some really awesome holiday table decorations with crafts made with Epsom Salts this year.  I wonder if it this is a new trend, hmm….  🙂

4.  Got dirty grout in your house?  I have a solution for that.  Take equal parts of Epsom salts to dish detergent and allow it to penetrate the stains for a few minutes.  Then simply scrub/ wipe away that nasty grout.  It will leave it looking brand new again.  Much cheaper than having to re-grout your tile foyer.

5.  Give yourself a facial.  Mix a tablespoon each of Epsom salts and baking soda with a little bit of water.  Add enough water to make a thick paste.  Scrub your face with the mixture.  Allow it dry on your face until the flaking gets to be to much.  Rinse, then enjoy your soft and dewy new complexion.  Important tip:  Any time that you use Epsom Salt for any beauty routine, make sure you drink plenty of water afterwards.

I hope that you enjoyed this weeks edition of 5 Fun Freaky Facts for Friday, Epsom Salt Edition and maybe learned something new.  If you have a use for Epsom Salts, leave me a comment and share it with us.  I look forward to your comments.  Have a Great Week!

Five Fun Freaky Facts for Friday, Vinegar

five fun freaky facts for friday, vinegar

This week is all about Vinegar, white vinegar…we already know that it has over 1,000 different uses. But did you know about these five fun freaky facts for Friday about vinegar?  Read on and let me know which fact is your favorite or new to you.

  • Did you know that you can use it to clean your copper pots? Yes, quite easily actually if you follow this recipe. Mix four parts of vinegar to one part of Epsom salt in a bowl into a paste. Dip a sponge into the mixture and wipe on the Copper Pots to clean them. Then wash them and dry them afterwards. They should look as good as new!
  • Use Vinegar to remove the limescale build up and clean the inside of your coffee maker. Fill your coffee pot with half hot water and half vinegar and start the cleaning setting on your coffee maker. If you don’t have a cleaning setting on your coffee maker, just brew a pot of coffee with the vinegar and water. Make sure that afterwards, you run plain water through it before you make your next pot of coffee. It will get the job done and you will be surprised at all of the curd that comes out of your coffee maker. I just did this and was in Awe!
  • Got stubborn weeds in your driveway or walkway cracks? Pour straight white vinegar on them. They will turn brown and die away with in days.
  • Do you live in a cold climate with snow? If you take a cloth and pour a little bit of vinegar on it, you take salt stains off of your favorite leather boots and your other leather shoes too. 😉
  • Inherit a vintage piece of furniture lately? You can erase musty smells from most pieces of furniture by placing a bowl full of vinegar into the piece of furniture. Leave it in there for a few days to rid the furniture of the smell. Afterwards, it should smell fresh and new again.

Come back every Friday to find out more Five Fun Freaky Facts for Friday!  Do you have any fun facts that you would like to share with me?  Let me know!  🙂

Clean Your Bathroom without the Fumes

Clean Your Bathroom Without The Fumes

You do not need stinky chemicals to clean your bathroom.  You can get it cleaned very easily without inhaling hazardous chemicals and without destroying the environment.  I can show you how to clean your bathroom without the fumes.  If you use my method and follow my directions on making your own cleaning agents, you will also save money and do a good dead for Mother Earth.  Now who doesn’t want to do a good deed for Mother Earth?  I mean C’mon, she’s Mother Earth.  {Wink, wink!}

To make this task more manageable, go ahead and prepare yourself a bathroom cleaning kit.  Buy yourself a cute basket and fill it up with everything that you need to clean with. (I bought my basket, spray bottle, scrub brush and the big bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide from the Dollar Tree).  The picture above show you what I have in my bathroom cleaning kit.  I keep it all together underneath the guest bathroom sink.  When it is cleaning day, I just pull it out and get to cleaning the bathroom.  I like having everything already put together so I am not running around the house looking for the scrub brush or searching for the Hydrogen Peroxide.  {Besides, having to run around for all of the cleaning supplies, I think takes longer than the actual cleaning of the bathroom, IMO}.

As you can see from the picture above my bathroom cleaning kit has….

*Paper-towels or newspaper to clean the mirrors

* Toilet bowl brush  (actually I have this hanging on the side of the toilet bowl)

*  My Uber magic cleaning solution in a spray bottle.  Recipe for my Uber Magic Cleaner.

*  A scrub brush

*  A bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide

*  Cleaning rags

*  A garbage bag to replace the one in the trash can

You will also need a:

*  A broom and a dust pan  ( I use my broom to mop the floor with to, that way the broom gets cleaned also).

Use the Uber Magic Cleaner to clean your bathtub and shower and say good bye to soap scum.  Spray it on and a little bit of scrubbing will take it right off.  This cleaner will also do wonders on limescale in your toilet.    Plus, you can use it on your sink and your counters.  After you have rinsed everything off, take a cleaning rag with a dab of Hydrogen Peroxide on it and wipe everything down to sanitize your entire bathroom with out any stinky smell or harmful chemicals or fumes.

As I promised it really is possible to clean your bathroom without the stinky and chemical fumes.  By the way, Mother Earth Thanks you!

Use An Onion to Fight The Flu

Use Onions to Fight The Flu

Growing up in the south, I was introduced to a lot of Old Wives Tales.  Every winter my Grandmother would stock up on onions.  She would cut them in half and put an onion in each room of our house.  I thought that she was just being silly.  But now I know she was being wise.  Who knew you could use an onion to fight the flu?

History Lesson Time:   In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.  Many of the farmers and their families had contracted it and many died.  A doctor came upon this one farmers home and to his surprise, everyone in the home was healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer how come his family was healthy?  The wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home.  The doctor couldn’t believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope.  She gave him one and when he went to test the onion, he did find the flu virus in the onion. The onion  had absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

The first year, my daughter was born, I left an onion in her room so she wouldn’t get sick.  Do you know that my daughter and son were the only children in our playgroup that didn’t get sick the first year of their lives.  Or the second year.  Or the third year of their lives.  Do you know how wonderful it is not to have take your children to the emergency room because of some virus their little bodies have contracted?  I do and it was wonderful.  I sat and worried with so many of my friends were their babies were sick.

Every couple days I replace a fresh onion in each of their rooms and Thankfully to this day, neither one of them have gotten the flu or any other serious virus.  {I even take onions are vacation with us, my husband has stopped questioning me on this.}

Onions are known to fight off certain bacteria’s and viruses.  Onions have phytochemical and quercetin which assist the body by moving and breaking up the mucus in the head and chest. The powerful odor causes the eyes to tear and the nose to run. It is this affect on your body that stimulates the immune system to fight the virus or bacterial infection. This is helping your body shed the virus and reduce the inflammation from congestion.

Suffice to say, if we listened and still practice certain Old Wive Tales and stopped listening to the marketing magic spells of many companies, we could be healthier and wiser.
