Spring Cleaning 101, Series One

It is that time again!  The weather is finally warming up and it is time to throw open those windows and let your house air out.  Rid it of all the winter woes and staleness.  Let your house breathe some fresh air into it so it too can feel peppy about Spring and all of the wonderful new life that it brings.

The easiest way to accomplish it is to focus on one room at a time.  Don’t overwhelm yourself trying to get it all done at once.  Remember it is Spring and you need to get out there and Enjoy it too!  Don’t be afraid to enlist friends and family to aid in your Spring cleaning either.  Even my toddlers got in on the action at our house.  Be sure to give age appropriate chores for children, toddlers are excellent size for washing baseboards.

The best part of Spring Cleaning in my opinion is the opportunity to declutter the house and getting it organized.  It is amazing at how much stuff magically appears every new year in the house.  Out with the old and in with the new, lol.   There are many challenges out there for instance, 40 Bags in 40 Days that you can participate during Spring time to help you declutter your house.  Once you decide what to get rid of, get rid of it.  Don’t keep it for any longer!  Sell it, donate it, just get it out of your house and move on.  This is also a great time to envision how you want your house to function.

Maybe, the guest room, which always tend to end up as the catch all for various junk would be better serviced as play room for the kids.  Or as the craft space that you always wanted.  Or an office.  Envision the place that you want to live in and take the steps to create it.  Changing the appearance of it can change your perspective of how you deal with the future state of the room in question.

If you don’t have a spare room aka junk room, maybe you can change the rooms furniture layout to cut down on the clutter that accumulates in that room.  For instance, I personally, can not have chairs in my bedroom.  I have learned the hard way.  If I have chairs in my room, they end up with clothes, clean or dirty all over them.  Chairs are my negative triggers.  What are your negative triggers?  What can you do to remove them from your life so that you can become more organized?

Come back to read more of Spring Cleaning 101…I have so many great ideas to help you succeed while Spring Cleaning and Enjoying Spring.

  1. We are trying to go through one room in our home each month….it’s hard to find the time to do it well, but we are doing it so far! I love being able to get rid of things and make the space more usable.

    1. I know the feeling. I carve out a day in my planner and make it happen! Getting rid of the clutter is so liberating, isn’t it?
